Modelling and Simulations in Electrical Engineering
Recommended Semester of Study
1st Level of Study, 2nd Year, Summer Semester
Learning Outcomes
Students will acquire both fundamental knowledge and advanced practical skills in the development of mathematical models, modeling, and simulation of electrical circuits and mechanical systems. They will learn to analyze results obtained in both the time and frequency domains and to assess the influence of component parameters on the dynamic properties of a given system. Students will also expand their MATLAB programming skills through advanced symbolic programming techniques and their application to the analysis and solution of dynamic systems.
Brief Course Outline
- Theoretical foundations for the evaluation of time-domain and frequency-domain characteristics, with emphasis on oscillatory systems.
- Application of the Laplace transform to mathematical system descriptions using the Symbolic Math Toolbox and Control Toolbox.
- Advanced MATLAB programming techniques, modeling in Simscape and its integration with Simulink. Development of graphical user interfaces (GUIs) in MATLAB.
- Transfer functions of electrical circuits and their analysis in the time and frequency domains using computer-based methods.
- Electromechanical analogy.
- Models of translational, rotational, and combined mechanical systems; their simulation in both the frequency and time domains.
- RLC filter circuits, standard electrical filters and their design. Use and applications of the Filter Designer app for filter design.
