About laboratory

The laboratory is intended for the design, implementation, simulation, and measurement of control and power electronic circuits. It is equipped with oscilloscopes, adjustable DC and AC power supplies, programmable electronic loads, power analyzers, signal generators, and the OrCAD PSpice simulation software package. In addition, it provides the basic infrastructure for the fabrication of control and power printed circuit boards (PCBs), including UV exposure equipment, an etching unit, and a soldering station. The laboratory offers state‑of‑the‑art equipment not only for teaching purposes, but also for final theses, semester projects, and research activities.

Subjects and learning outcomes

Bachelor’s Studies:

  • Power Electronics (theory and applications of modern power semiconductor devices and methods for converting electrical energy forms and parameters using power electronic converters; analysis of voltage and current waveforms in power electronic converters; calculation of average and RMS values of voltages and currents; use of modern measurement equipment; assembly of electrical circuits according to circuit diagrams and analysis of their properties).

Master’s Studies:

  • Power Semiconductor Systems (modern rectifier systems for frequency converters and DC converters; converter systems for power supplies; industrial and power engineering applications of converters; protection of power semiconductor devices against overvoltage and power overload conditions).
  • Control of Power Semiconductor Systems (analysis, modeling, design, and simulation of control structures and algorithms for advanced power electronic converters used in modern applications such as renewable energy sources, electromobility, controlled DC and AC electric drives, and battery energy storage systems).

Doctoral Studies:

  • Electromechanical Systems (dynamic models of electromechanical systems as a whole and of their individual subsystems; methods and properties of control techniques for both linear and nonlinear electromechanical systems; design and dynamic models of selected electrical machines; design and characteristics of static power converters related to the doctoral candidate’s research work).
  • Servo Systems (applications of converters in servo systems; selected topics in control theory; electromechanical systems and their continuous and discrete descriptions and models; multi-motor drives and servo systems, including modeling, analysis, and methods for the design of process controllers; control of technological complexes, including control system architectures and software, visualization tools, control safety, and redundancy).
  • Scientific Research Activity 1–5 (ability to independently conceive, design, implement, and modify a substantial part of research with scientific integrity, contributing original research that expands the boundaries of scientific knowledge through a comprehensive body of work, some of which is worthy of peer-reviewed publication. Achievement of original scientific results acceptable at the international level. Based on the conducted scientific research, the graduate is regarded as an expert in their field.)
