Electric Appliances
Recommended Semester of Study
1st Level of Study, 3rd Year, Summer Semester
Learning Outcomes
The aim of the course is to provide a concise overview of issues related to the switching of electrical circuits. Students gain an understanding of the principles and types of devices used for switching electrical circuits on and off under various operating conditions in both low-voltage and medium-voltage networks. The course also covers protective and circuit protection devices.
Brief Course Outline
- Basic concepts, electrodynamic forces.
- Switching of electrical circuits without arcing, recovery voltage.
- Electrical contacts.
- Electrical discharges in switching devices, electric arc.
- Switching of low inductive and capacitive currents.
- Protective and circuit protection devices.
- Low-voltage and medium-voltage switching devices (disconnectors, contactors, relays, circuit breakers).
- Surge arresters and atmospheric overvoltages.
- Solid-state switches.
