Learning Outcomes

The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the fundamental principles and tasks involved in the implementation of interfaces in MMI (Man-Machine Interface) systems. The course covers the basic aspects of process visualization, with emphasis on practical implementation and the development of applications in the Control Web 6 environment. Students will learn the general principles of interface design, the basic philosophy of operation and visual programming technology, and the definition of the primary objectives and functions of visualization systems with regard to ergonomic and psychological aspects. Students will be able to develop applications for monitoring and controlling technological processes using object-oriented programming, as well as applications for remote process visualization over computer networks.

Brief Course Outline

  1. MMI systems, basic functions and tasks of MMI systems, classification and characteristics of MMI subsystems, operator and engineering functions of MMI systems, maintenance subsystem and its functions.
  2. Principles of user interface design, principles of interface generation, basic objectives and functions of process visualization.
  3. Structure of a technological process with visualization. Ergonomic and social aspects. New trends in the field of MMI.
  4. Development of visualization applications in Control Web 6. Description of the integrated development environment, graphical editor, panels, and virtual instruments.
  5. Discrete and continuous instruments, application timing, drivers and channels, system variables.
  6. Programming and OCL procedures.
  7. Animations and process diagrams, modular and distributed applications.
  8. Development of remote applications (Internet-based applications), ActiveX objects, and SQL.
